Why You’ll Love These Vegan Elderberry Sea Moss Gummy Bears
There are so many reasons to fall in love with these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears, especially as you reset in January:
- They’re vegan and gelatin-free. Instead of gelatin, these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears use agar agar, a seaweed-derived gelling agent, so they’re completely plant-based.
- They’re made with just four ingredients. Cherry juice, maple syrup, agar agar, and True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour—nothing weird, nothing artificial.
- They’re naturally sweetened. Because maple syrup does the sweetening here, these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears skip refined sugar entirely.
- They’re freezer- and fridge-friendly. You can refrigerate them for up to a week, and you can also freeze the vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears for longer storage.
- They’re adaptable to any mold. While the original batch made about 100 mini gummy bears, you can absolutely use any silicone mold—or even an ice cube tray—to shape your vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears.
- They’re an easy wellness ritual. Instead of taking sea moss gel straight from the jar, these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears turn it into a daily treat you’ll actually look forward to.
What You Need To Make Vegan Elderberry Sea Moss Gummy Bears
You only need a few basic tools and ingredients to make these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears, which keeps the process simple and approachable.
Equipment:
- Small saucepan
- Whisk
- Heatproof jug or bowl with a spout (optional, but helpful for pouring)
- Silicone gummy bear molds or any silicone mold (such as mini ice cube molds)
- Baking sheet or tray to support the molds
- Small dropper or squeeze bottle (if using tiny gummy bear molds)
Key ingredients:
- Cherry juice – This forms the juicy, fruity base and adds that beautiful deep red color.
- Maple syrup – This gently sweetens the vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears without refined sugar.
- Agar agar powder – This is the plant-based gelling agent that gives the vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears their firm, bouncy texture.
- True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour – This is the star of the collaboration and infuses the vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears with sea moss and elderberry goodness.

Ingredient Substitutions
If you need to tweak these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears to fit what you have on hand, you absolutely can. Just keep the basic ratios similar so the gummies set properly.
- Juice swaps: You can swap the cherry juice for another 100% fruit juice such as grape, pomegranate, or blueberry. However, avoid pulpy juices like orange, because they can interfere with the final texture.
- Sweetener options: Instead of maple syrup, you can use agave syrup or date syrup in the same amount. Nevertheless, keep in mind that different sweeteners may slightly change the flavor profile.
- Agar agar adjustments: If your agar brand is very strong, you can reduce it slightly to 1 teaspoon (about 3 g). On the other hand, if they come out too soft, increase to a scant 2 teaspoons next time.
- Sea moss gel variations: This recipe is designed for True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour. If you only have plain sea moss gel, you can still make vegan sea moss gummies and simply lean on the juice for flavor. In that case, you may want to add a touch more maple syrup or a squeeze of lemon for brightness.

Ingredients List
For one batch of vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears (about 100 mini gummies), you’ll need:
- 1 cup (240 ml) cherry juice – 100% juice, not from concentrate if possible
- 3 tablespoons (45 ml) maple syrup
- 1 ½ teaspoons agar agar powder (about 4.5 g)
- 2 heaping tablespoons True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour (about 35–40 g)
- Optional, for slightly softer vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears:
-
1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) extra cherry juice, if you prefer a more tender set
- Silicone molds, I used these!
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a small pot and whisk together.
- Bring the pot to a low boil.
- Once boiling, allow to boil for just one minute. (No longer!)
- Remove from heat, and whisk well.
- Pour mixture into a bowl so it can cool slightly, 5 minutes.
- While the mixture cools, place your silicone molds on baking trays so they can easily be moved into the fridge once they’re filled.
- Pour the mixture into your silicone molds - how you do this will depend on how large your mold is! If you have small gummy bear molds, as pictured, then you’ll need a squeeze bottle or droppers to get them into the molds, if you’re using large molds you can easily use anything with a spout.
- Once you’ve divided the mixture across your silicone molds add them to the fridge to firm up for 30 minutes.
- At 30 minutes they should easily pop out of the molds!
- Keep gummy bears in a tightly sealed container in the fridge until ready to eat.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are these high in protein?
These vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears are not a high-protein recipe on their own. Instead, they’re more of a functional, sea-moss-infused treat that you can pair with higher-protein vegan meals and snacks throughout your day. However, they absolutely fit beautifully into a high-protein vegan lifestyle when combined with protein-rich dishes like tofu, lentils, beans, seitan, or protein smoothies.
2. How long do they last in the fridge?
Generally, these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears will keep well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 5–7 days. Because sea moss gel is already stored chilled, you’ll want to keep the vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears refrigerated as well to maintain both texture and freshness.
3. Can I freeze vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears?
Yes, you can freeze vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears. First, arrange them in a single layer on a parchment-lined tray and freeze until solid. Then transfer the frozen vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears to a container or freezer bag. When you’re ready to enjoy them, let a few thaw in the fridge. The texture may be slightly softer after freezing, but they should still be very enjoyable.
4. Can I make them without agar agar?
Because agar agar is what gives these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears their firm, chewy texture, you cannot simply omit it. Gelatin is not vegan, so it’s not a 1:1 substitute here. If you don’t have agar agar powder, you could experiment with vegan gelatin alternatives, but the texture and ratios will be different from this specific vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears recipe.
5. Can I use a different flavor of sea moss gel?
You can. However, this recipe is calibrated around True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour, so the flavor profile may change if you use a different variety. If you switch to plain sea moss gel, you may want to slightly increase the maple syrup or add a squeeze of lemon to keep the vegan sea moss gummy bears bright and balanced.
6. What if they are too firm or too soft?
If your vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears feel too firm, use a bit less agar agar next time—try 1 teaspoon (about 3 g). On the other hand, if your vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears are too soft or won’t hold their shape, increase the agar agar slightly or simmer the mixture a little longer to fully activate the gelling power.
7. Can kids enjoy these gummy bears?
Yes, kids can absolutely enjoy these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears, as long as they’re old enough to safely eat small, chewy foods. However, always check with their healthcare provider if you have specific questions about sea moss or elderberry for your child, and always supervise children when eating gummy-style treats.
With just four ingredients and a few minutes on the stove, these vegan elderberry sea moss gummy bears turn your True Sea Moss Gel Elderberry flavour into a fun, everyday ritual. And because they’re easy to customize and easy to share, they’re a beautiful way to carry your plant-based wellness goals into the new year and beyond!
