Easy, Chocolate Puff Pastry Mummies
Evann RyanThese vegan, chocolate puff pastry mummies are the easiest and cutest little halloween treats!!! With just two main ingredients - vegan puff pastry and chocolate, plus icing sugar and candy eyeballs to decorate, these are so fun to make and look super impressive! Great recipe idea to make with your kids, or to bring to a halloween party.
I made these using Zazubean's no added sugar Oat Milk Hazelnut Chocolate, which is a healthier, fair trade, organic, no added sugar chocolate option to keep these a littler healthier. I've linked both the vegan puff pastry and the chocolate I used in the recipe below.

Why You and Your Kids Will Love These Chocolate Puff Pastry Mummies
- The perfect little hand pies that look impressive but only require a few ingredients.
- Buying pre-made puff pastry makes these puff pastry mummies incredibly easy to make.
- Low in sugar, if you use my suggested no-added sugar chocolate (linked below.)
- Great for any holiday or party dessert, just remove the candied eyeballs!
Roll out your puff pastry into a rectangle and start adding chocolate pieces to the bottom half.

Then slice of the top half, you'll use this for the mummy strings.

Using the discarded pastry dough to make the mummy strings, or "clothing."

What You'll Need To Make These Chocolate Puff Pastries
Vegan puff pastry. If you're local to Canada, you can likely grab this brand.
Chocolate. I used the Zazubean no-added sugar hazelnut chocolate for a nutella flavour!
Icing sugar, just a light tap on on the top of these finished puff pastries to give them a white finish.
Candied eyeballs, if you're going halloween. Skip if they're for anything else ;)
Slicing the bottom half into individual squares, around the chocolate.

Then add your mummy strings in criss cross shapes across the pastry square, leaving room for the eyes 3/4 of the way up.

Gently wet the tips of your fingers with water and seal the edges to all the pastry dough is attached.

Add all the puff pastry mummies to a baking tray and spray with a little bit of oil.

Substitutions
While they're can't be many substitutions for these simple, two ingredient puff pastries, you can substitute the chocolate squares for nutella or a preferred spread if desired!
As soon as they're done baking, add the candied eyeballs to the melted chocolate so they stick in place!

Dust with icing sugar so they have a nice white coating. You're done!

Chocolate Puff Pastry Mummies
Recipe makes 8 pastry mummy (easy to double!)
Macros per serving:
172 cals - 12g fat - 14g carbs - 2g protein
Ingredients:
- 200g pastry dough (1/2 of this pack)
- 88g Zazubean Hazelnut no-added sugar chocolate (or preferred chocolate!)
- 1 tbsp (9g) organic icing sugar
- 16 candy eyeballs
Instructions:
- If using the same pre-made pastry dough you will need to take it from the freezer to the fridge, allowing it to thaw in the fridge for 2-3 hrs.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out 200g of pastry dough.
- You want a long rectangle.
- Cut your chocolate into squares and add them to the bottom half of the pastry dough rectangle (pictured above), one above the other vertically. Do this 8 times along the bottom of the rectangle. This is the "mummy shape" you're going to wrap more dough around.
- Take a knife and slice the large pastry rectangle in half horizontally. This should leave one half with all the vertical chocolate rectangles, and one half of just dough.
- Slice the dough only rectangle into thin long lines, for the mummy wrapping.
- Now slice the 8 chocolate/pastry rectangles free from one another. You should have 8 dough rectangles with two pieces chocolate on them each.
- Pour a ramekin of water and set it on your table.
- Using the long thin dough pieces, criss-cross the pieces across each chocolate dough rectangle, mostly covering the chocolate, but leaving a small opening near the top so you can add the candy eyeballs when it's done cooking.
- Then dip your fingers in the water and seal the sides so the bottom square dough is sealed with the long thin dough pieces (chocolate in the middle).
- Using a sharp knife, slice any excess dough from the sides so you have a nice clean rectangle.
- Repeat until you have 8 mummy treats!
- Add them to the prepared baking tray and bake at 350 F for 22-26 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Allow to cool completely before using a sifter to cover them in icing sugar.
- Then add the eye balls by pressing into the chocolate.
- Enjoy!
